5 must haves for going back to school - COVID Edition

Ok, ok. So you never imagined in March that we would still be in this mess today, but here we are. But, remember what we learned last summer on choir tour: You were created for such a time as this. (Esther 4:14)

Such a time as this.

We never imagined "such a time as this" would mean COVID-19, virtual learning, synchronous and asynchronous classes, no youth camp, no choir tour, Zoom, and isolation. But God knew. He still has a plan and a purpose for each of us! Jesus walks alongside us and guides us each day--even in quarantine.

Here are the five things you need for heading "back to school" this fall:

  1. Patience.

I've never been naturally patient--you may be the same way. If so, COVID-19 has been exceptionally difficult. We must be patient as we wait on a vaccine. We must be patient as we wait to return to in-person school and church. The Lord is with us every moment, and although it feels as if this will go on forever--this, too, shall pass.

2. A Sense of Humor.

One day we'll look back on this and laugh. Let me be clear, the suffering of those diagnosed with COVID and the suffering of their families is not funny. And never will be. But our day-to-day stresses have diminished with our move to a slower pace of life. We have time to enjoy our families, laugh at the little things, and stop and smell the roses.

3. Trust.

We have to trust that God is making a way. The Bible repeatedly reminds us that Jesus and God are taking care and watching over us. Look what God has already done in our lives! Think of a situation that at one time seemed impossible to overcome. See? God brought us through those difficult times and he will again!

One of my heroes, Mother Teresa, said, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." Our trust in God should not be kept inside and harboured, but shared. Let's create ripples!

4. Jesus.

Enough said.

5. Mask.

The sooner we abide by the rules, the sooner we can all be back together!!
